Reconciliation in Action through Indigenous Education, Employment, and Partnerships
WINNIPEG, Manitoba--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 23, 2024--
As Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation approaches, Exchange Income Corporation (TSX: EIF) (“EIC” or the “Corporation”) a diversified, acquisition-oriented company focused on opportunities in the Aviation & Aerospace and Manufacturing segments, continues celebrating graduates of the Atik Mason Pilot Pathway Program (the “Pathway”); extends offers of employment to graduates from the Pathway program; and prepares to welcome more than 1,000 Indigenous guests to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football game on September 27, 2024 to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada.
The Pathway program removes significant barriers to flight training faced by Indigenous candidates, including cost and location, and respects the importance of retaining a deep connection to Indigenous culture while training. Since the introduction of the Pathway program in 2022, EIC has established seasonal training bases in Thompson, Manitoba and Rankin Inlet, Nunavut and successfully conducted four seasonal sessions of training for students at those bases and supported several students who chose to expedite their career path by continuing training, at an EIC subsidiary, MFC Training in Moncton, New Brunswick.
In 2021, EIC partnered with the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Football Club, and several Indigenous organizations across the country to bring together more than 1,000 Indigenous guests to cheer as one at a professional football game. That partnership has continued and grown over the past 4 years and it is EIC’s honor to be supporting the initiative again on Friday, September 27, 2024 when the Winnipeg Blue Bombers host the Edmonton Elks at Princess Auto Stadium.
“We have had long standing and supportive relationships with the Indigenous communities we are privileged to serve from coast to coast in Canada,” said Mike Pyle, Chief Executive Officer. He continued, “We have always made known that reconciliation needs to be an ongoing process and we are proud to continue to put those words into action by providing education and employment opportunities through the Pathway and by bringing people together to recognize Orange Shirt Day with our Indigenous partners and the Winnipeg Blue Bomber Football Club.” Mr. Pyle ended by emphasizing, “The great success of these initiatives would not be possible without the partnerships we have, such as the one with Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakank Inc., who continue to share their guidance and wisdom with us in support of these initiatives and events.”
“Last month we celebrated Pathway graduates from the Rankin Inlet training base and we are proud to be extending those celebrations to recognize the graduates from the Thompson base,” stated David White, Executive Vice President, Aviation, he finished with “Every graduate from the Pathway program is guaranteed employment with an EIC operator.”
Grand Chief Garrison Settee, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakank (“MKO”) proclaimed, “The Pathway program is creating role models that will have an everlasting effect on our communities.” He went on, “Our people are resilient and talented. This program shows that given the opportunity they can achieve great things and will inspire the next generation of their community members to do the same. We are proud to support EIC in the Pathway program and the Orange Shirt football game as it’s events like these that spark discussion, bring awareness and help the healing that is needed.”
