OKI Launches GVIF/GMSL-Compatible Machine Vision Cables with FAKRA Connectors for AI Robots and Industrial FA Equipment

— Mass production begins at Gunma Factory for 3 mm outer-diameter, 5 Gbps high-speed transmission cables featuring high flex life and durability —

TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 2025-- OKI Electric Cable (President: Hideo Yamaguchi, Head Office: Isesaki City, Gunma Prefecture), the OKI Group’s electric cable company, will launch two new types of machine vision (Note 1) interface cables—one for fixed applications and one for moving applications—equipped with FAKRA (Note 2) connectors and compatible with the GVIF and GMSL LVDS high-speed transmission standards (Note 3). Shipments will begin in December 2025. These products are aimed at manufacturers in Japan and overseas, primarily in the AI robotics and industrial factory automation (FA) sectors, with planned FY2026 sales of 100 million yen.

As automation, digital transformation (DX), and AI adoption accelerate across the manufacturing industry, the installation of high-definition cameras in robots and FA equipment continues to expand. To support AI-based image inspection and automated production processes, cables must be capable of transmitting high-resolution video in real time at high speeds. Furthermore, as equipment becomes smaller, lighter, and more complex, cables require small diameter, high flex life, and improved durability for wiring in confined spaces and continuous movement—while also delivering the reliability necessary to maintain high uptime and stable operation.

Developed to meet these market needs, the new products provide high-speed, high-definition image transmission of approximately 5 Gbps based on GVIF/GMSL standards; a slim 3 mm outer diameter; and outstanding durability and flex life, including 10 million sliding-bending (Note 4) cycles (for the moving type). The products are highly resistant to noise (EMC) (Note 5) to allow video transmission with stable image quality. Moreover, waterproof FAKRA connectors ensure high reliability, and by combining fixed and moving type cables through intermediate connections (Note 6), only the moving portion needs to be replaced during maintenance—helping reduce labor and operating costs. These products are ideal for a wide range of applications requiring both high speed and high reliability, including industrial robots, machine vision systems, image inspection equipment, monitoring systems, and assembly/inspection process equipment.

[Terminology]

Note 1: Machine vision
A system used for PCB mounting equipment, product label printing equipment, and other equipment to perform appearance inspections or determine print defects using multiple cameras, light sources, imaging devices, and image processing devices.

Note 2: FAKRA (FAchKReis Automobil)
A German standard for connectors used as standard interfaces for automotive telematics applications. It is expected to broaden applications involving high-capacity data transmission, such as cameras and sensors used in autonomous driving systems and advanced driver assistance systems.

Note 3: GVIF and GMSL LVDS standards
LVDS (Low-Voltage Differential Signaling) is a high-speed transmission standard for automotive applications, including GVIF (Gigabit Video InterFace) and GMSL (Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link).

Note 4: Sliding and bending
The motion of sliding a cable while it is bent into a U shape.

Note 5: EMC
This is an acronym for electromagnetic compatibility. Equipment must be designed and manufactured to ensure it does not cause and is not affected by electromagnetic interference and continues to operate normally even when subjected to electromagnetic interference.

Note 6: Intermediate connection
Refers to the connection between connectors of moving and fixed type cables.
